Storage & Handling
Last updated: September 2026
Best practices for storing, reconstituting, and handling research peptides to maintain stability and potency throughout their shelf life.
Storage at a Glance
Powder: Freezer
1+ year at -20°C
Reconstituted: Fridge
4 weeks max at 2-8°C
Lyophilized (Powder) Storage
Lyophilized peptides are remarkably stable when stored properly. Keep them cold, dry, and protected from light for maximum shelf life.
- • Freezer (-20°C): 1+ year, ideal for long-term storage
- • Refrigerator (2-8°C): 1-3 months for short-term use
- • Room temperature: 2-3 weeks (emergency only, expect some degradation)
- • Keep vials sealed until ready to reconstitute
- • Store in original packaging to protect from light
Reconstituted Peptide Storage
Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, peptides become far more fragile. Follow these rules to preserve potency.
- • Must refrigerate at 2-8°C immediately after reconstitution
- • 4-week maximum shelf life under refrigeration
- • Never freeze after reconstitution, ice crystals degrade the peptide
- • Use bacteriostatic water for multi-dose vials
- • Keep away from light and heat sources
If the solution becomes cloudy, discolored, or develops particles, discard it. These are signs of degradation or contamination.
Reconstitution Best Practices
Reconstitution is the process of dissolving lyophilized powder into a liquid solution. Doing it correctly preserves the peptide and ensures accurate dosing.
- • Use bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) for multi-dose vials
- • Sterile water is acceptable for single-use vials
- • Aim the stream of water against the vial wall, not directly at the powder
- • Swirl gently to dissolve, do not shake vigorously
- • Let the solution sit for a few minutes to fully dissolve
- • Use the reconstitution calculator for accurate concentration math
Travel & Transport
For short trips, reconstituted peptides can be kept in a small cooler with ice packs for up to 24 hours. For longer transport, lyophilized powder is preferable since it tolerates brief temperature excursions. Never check peptides in airline luggage, carry them with you to avoid extreme temperature swings.
